14-Best Leather Backpack Purse for Travel

We’ve all seen them: those dreamy frequent fliers who breeze through the airport unruffled. You wouldn’t know they were racing to their gate or have been on the road for the last 24 hours. We don’t know exactly how to feel (or look) that composed, but we do know that a dependable, stylish travel backpack drastically improves our ability to navigate the airport (and sometimes the other way around). A travel backpack holds the same amount of weight as a big tote bag (or even a crossbody duffle), but it’s so much easier to carry around on your back than a heavy duffle. Plus, backpacks give you hands-free control while keeping things organized and comfortable while you’re on the move. So if you’re ready to upgrade your travel backpack, we’ve got you covered! Here are some of the best travel backpacks we’ve personally tried and rated, plus a few more we found through our research. 14-Best Leather Backpack Purse for Travel

1. Everlane ReNew Transit Backpack

everlane renew transit backpack

There are many reasons to love The ReNew Transit backpack. During our testing, we found it to be able to hold a large amount of gear, even when stuffed to the brim. The backpack is made from recycled polyester material, which is a great option if you’re looking for something sustainable. Not only that, but it’s also highly water-repellent and durable, so your laptop and other gear won’t get wet if you’re stuck in the rain while you’re out and about. The ReNew Transit also has a few great organizational features, such as two water bottle pockets and an exterior laptop sleeve. It also has zippered pockets and a luggage sleeve that you can attach to your rolling luggage as needed. The only thing we didn’t like about this backpack is that it has a series of hidden magnetic closures on the top of the bag. This gives it its elegant shape, but it can easily pop off when you’re lifting the bag by its top handle. It’s not a big deal, as the inner zippers are holding your gear in place, but you’ll have to adjust it before you slide it onto your back.

2. MZ Wallace Metro Utility Backpack

MZ Wallace Metro Utility Backpack

If you’re looking for a bag that’ll keep your documents and gear organized rather than just sitting at the bottom of the bag, the MZ Wallace black Metro Utility Backpack will be your best option. Crafted from recycled nylon with sustainably sourced leather, it’s packed with pockets and pockets on both the inside and outside of the bag, so that you’ll always have a place for everything (your passport, your water bottle, etc.). We also love that the top handle is generously sized in addition to the standard backpack straps, so you can carry it like a duffel as needed. Just be aware that the straps are slightly longer (even when shortened), and might not fit more petite travelers.

3. Caraa Stratus Large Backpack

Caraa Stratus Large Backpack

Cara Stratus Large is something of a wonder bag; it’s gorgeous and stylish, and it’s also reasonably affordable. It’s made of nylon, which is super lightweight, so you can easily stuff it with your stuff without feeling weighed down. The best part about this bag is that it’s totally waterproof without looking totally waterproof. You can easily carry it at the airport, but with its fashion-forward look, you can also carry it in the city. We also like that it has twelve pockets to keep your stuff organized while you’re on the go, and it even has space for a 17 inch laptop. We like the capacity of this bag, but it does mean that it’s a bit big compared to other travel bags. Be aware that it may look a bit big on people with smaller frames.

4. Pacsafe Anti-theft Backpack

Pacsafe Anti-theft Backpack

This bag was specifically designed for travelers who are moving from one hostel to another or who need a reliable carry-on to give them peace of mind. We really like this one because it doesn’t look like one of the flashy anti-theft bags we’ve seen in the past. During our testing, we found that it’s really hard to cut into this bag with a knife, but if you do, the knife marks are likely to show up on your bag (which is better than having your stuff stolen and your bag destroyed). We also really like that it’s super lightweight and doesn’t feel heavy even when you’re packing it full of gear. Keep in mind that while this bag is great at preventing theft, it’s not great at organization. There are very few pockets and there’s no designated laptop pocket.

5. Paravel Fold-up Backpack

Paravel Fold-up Backpack

Another travel hack to remember is that no matter how lightweight you think you are packing, always pack a folding bag. That way, you’ll never have to worry about the extra space you’ll need for souvenirs and clothing that won’t fit in your compression cubes on the night before you fly home. Our favorite folding backpack we’ve tested so far is the Paravel fold-up backpack. It’s super lightweight, comfortable to wear, and holds surprisingly much stuff without looking too bulky. We used it to carry our Kindle, a large beach towel, and a 20 oz. water bottle, as well as our daily essentials. When folded, it shrinks down to a full size (and looks surprisingly chic). However, since it doesn’t have a lot of structure, it protrudes at the bottom when you’re carrying heavier items such as a laptop (though this doesn’t affect comfort). 14-Best Leather Backpack Purse for Travel
